Introduction
TOKYO JAZZ

"TOKYO JAZZ" will explicitly pass on to the future generation music created by mankind up to this day. And as it continues for 5 years, 10 years term, this music festival dispatching from Tokyo, "TOKYO JAZZ", will become a cultural program which will proudly be presented by its people to the world "TOKYO JAZZ" is a whole new movement to provide freedom, liberation, and fusion to individual spirits by retracing JAZZ through freewheeling thinking.

Jazz is....
the root of all musical styles of the 20th century

The root of R&B, Soul, Rock'n Roll, Hip Hop, and other experimental music that are growing widely popular nowadays, could all be traced back to jazz.
At "TOKYO JAZZ 2003", we hope to have our audience, especially the younger generation who are unaware that the root of the sound they are committed to also lead back to jazz, realize that "jazz is the root of all musical styles." Almost every form of music is said to be running into a stonewall nowadays in one way or the other. We believe that by re-evaluating this root of 20th century music, jazz, at "TOKYO JAZZ 2003", it will provide an opportunity to recall energy that is fundamentally shared by all music forms.

JAZZ.... It's all about freeing our spirit

JAZZ was first created at the end of the 19th century as a sound to free our spirits. Living now in the 21st century, have our spirits really been freed?
Thelonious Monk once said, "JAZZ comes hand in hand with freedom."
Younger generation today tend to close their mind but on the other hand are desperate to be "connected with others". This is obviously shown through their use of internet. In such an age, the power of JAZZ may be in need more than ever. Now, the time has come to free the spirit of JAZZ itself, a sound which have only been enjoyed by a limited group of fans.

Fusion is the Essence of JAZZ

Jazz has made its growth through encounters with diverse styles of music.
It continues to move forward even today, by meeting various people of all ages and nationality, and different styles of their music. We are ushering in an age where respect for individuals and fusion among all is discovered through JAZZ.
